Smell of Home

The new town smelled of home, or as he always imagined home should. Of fresh cinnamon and flour. Something about the quaintness grated on his nerves. Made him chomp and twitch like the dank streets of his old home never did. The only relief the sincere, open eyes all around him. Their eyes were welcoming…trusting…kind. They were fools, all of them.
